B better: Thinking Bcorp
B part of the change
Office space has come a long way. Evolving from regiment to free thinking, no one office is the same. Alongside our ongoing goal to become Bcorp certified, we thought outside the [office] box and discussed trends in our modern workspace.

Green Office
Green spaces have been proven to increase productivity, becoming more than just a breath of fresh air. Humans inherently search for a link to nature–it’s no secret the colour green makes us calmer and helps us to focus. The average person will spend 90,000 hours at work over a lifetime. Its safe to say your work environment can make a huge impact on your quality of life. Adopting a green space is testament to a happier workspace and coincides with the flexibility and freedom of the modern 9-5.
Flexible 9-5
The contemporary working week has adapted enormously - we work flexible hours, co-work in shared space, or work from home. Remote working and desire for creative, collaborative spaces has promoted the rise in a comfortable workspace, far removed from archaic formulaic space. While 9-5 hours are increasingly flexible, so should be the ergonomics of your office.
Ergo-what?
Ergonomics refers to a working environment designed to meet the functional and supportive needs while promoting well being and productivity to workers. The modern office is multi-functioning which embraces social space to bring people together. We love adapting space to stand out from fitting in – a popular product is the sit stand desk, which helps to regulate blood flow and allows you to work with the ups and downs.
Office antics
The weekly office yoga might seem like a stretch from your desk, but employers are actively encouraging time away from the screen. The World Health Organisation (WHO) categorised long periods of sitting as a health risk, while Gov UK details 1 in 4 people are physically inactive. This mindfully millennial approach to blending work and play is quickly progressing from trend to norm – an insight into the future of the creative workspace.
Carving time out from your office chair to get the blood pumping, can help you refocus and boost your energy levels. How about a quick game of office ping pong.
Fast fashion. Fast office furniture?
Office furniture does not negate the temporarily loved, thrown-away-forever attitude. Equally office furniture is quickly becoming a fashion we ignore as a sustainable consumer product.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the amount of furniture and furnishings taken to a landfill rose from 7.6 million tons in 2005 to 9.69 million tons in 2015, and the increase is only accelerating. The rise of pop-up stores and start-up companies has fed the hunger for the formulaic (inside the box) DIY office furniture–a product which is readily available, yet also readily disposed.

Circular Economy
What role can sustainable businesses play in developing smarter product designs and circular business models?
Adopting a C2C (cradle to cradle) ethical business model, aimed to eliminate waste and the continual use of resources, is a great step towards a sustainable future. An alternative to traditional linear economy (make, use, dispose)circular does what is says on the tin, and regenerates the use of materials and products.Evolving into a conscious business model promotes the reuse of materials, a core value in becoming Bcorp certified. Reclaim, reuse, recycle and reduce–lets reconsider how we work and work for the future.
